Sunset Eco Tours Friday and Saturday night tours board in Sausalito at 3:30 pm and return between 8 pm and 9 pm. A naturalist is
on board to describe all that we see on the tour. We will go out under the Golden Gate bridge and past Point Bonita lighthouse.
Depending on the current weather conditions we will either head North up along the Coast or head out to the Farallon Islands. If your mission is to see
the Farallon Islands, please be sure to let us know.
The tours take advantage of the long days and start in May and run through the end of August. These expedtions are for the summer only. In the summer
Northern California coastal waters are rich with marine life and there should be much to see. There is the possiblity to
see whales, sealions, seals, porpoise, sea birds, and the glorious California coastal scenary.
This is a wildlife and nature tour, bring layers WARM of clothes with something waterproof, a snack, beverages and bring your camera.
An expert naturalist on whales and the area, will narrate and tell pieces of history, point out marine life and explain what you see. Her talk is worth the trip. She will
start her talk at 3:30 on the docks.
Departing from Sausalito at 3:45 PM sharp and returning around 8:30 and always by 9:00 pm.
The trip departs from Schoonmaker Harbor and directions can be found on our contact us page.
The tours are aboard the vessel "Taku", a coast guard certified 50 foot boat, and will be piloted by a captain experienced in nature tours.
The boat holds 49 passengers and we usually only have 30 so it is very comfortable.
For Farallon Island trips, it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to get out to the
islands. We are not allowed to dissembark and walk on
the islands, but will circumnavigate and see what there
is to see. Depending on the weather depends on how long we will spend out there.
Whale Watching involves a lot of watching. Our mission is to provide people with access to the sea to interface with marine life, view the california scenery from the sea and have the opportunity for the possibility to see whales. Some trips we see 20 whales, some trips we do not see any whales. Some trips the weather comes up, some trips the weather is sunny and glorious, some trips the seas are rough, some trips the seas are flat and calm like a mirror. We really do not have any control over this, our goal is to provide you the opportunity to explore the Farallon Islands, the Pacific Ocean and the the California Coast. An Expert naturalist is on board to describe local history of the San Franciso Bay the Farallons or the California Coast, geology, landmarks, lighthouses, identify marine life and sea birds and provide an educational experience. We hope that you enjoy discovering the area with us.
