Bay Adventures is very experienced at assisting you in planning a successful corporate team building event, offsite sales meeting adventure or employee appreciation day. We have a variety of programs for this kind of event and would be glad to custom tailor one for your needs. Below is a description of corporate team building event aboard the historic schooner "Gas Light"

We have daytime programs on the Gas Light that would be a wonderful team building offsite experience for your corporate event. Our program is an interactive, learn-while-doing experience and is appropriate for people interested in hands on sailing. Your group would be able to participate in all aspects of sailing the vessel, i.e. steering, navigating, handling lines, hoisting sails, etc. We would divide your group into teams on the dock a 1/2 hour before leaving and teach them about handling the lines, sails, and so on. Underway everyone would have the opportunity to steer the boat, handle the lines, man the foredeck and raise the sails. In addition, we give them a sense of the history of the early San Francisco Bay, particularly the history of scow schooners. We will talk about the life of a sailor and traditional navigation. While underway everyone can have the opportunity to participate in traditional navigation on a schooner including leadline marks, charts, and chip logs. A chip log is a time piece line with a quadrant on the end and divided by knots. You drop the chip log over the side and count how many seconds the knots let out.

The Gas Light is a working replica of the famous San Francisco hay scows that plied the bay up to the century. The scow schooner was one of the most unique types of local sailing craft developed in the United States during the nineteenth centruy. These thoroughly effective and practical vessels transported cargo under different conditions of wind water and tacked to windward smoothly and maneuvered well in close quarters.

The schooner Gas Light carries on this tradition. She is 72 feet long with a capacity of 40 passengers. She raced her first MasterMariners last year, taking 3rd place! Built for carrying heavy loads of cargo the sturdy construction and ample sail area makes the Gas Light an ideal charter for exursions on the bay. She is a joy to sail.

After the Angel Island barbeque, participants will be shuttled back to the docks on a boston whaler or resume sailing on the Gas Light.
